Frequently asked questions
How much do replacement windows cost in Fresno?
National guides disagree: This Old House gives an average of $517 per installed window, Angi $750 and HomeAdvisor $850. These are not our quotes. We measure every opening and quote each window in writing.
Do I need a permit to replace windows in Fresno?
Ask the city or county for your address. Many Valley cities issue permits for window change-outs, including like-for-like swaps, and new windows must meet the state energy code.
What energy rules do new windows have to meet?
Fresno is Climate Zone 13. Under the 2025 code, replacing more than 75 square feet of windows means a U-factor of 0.27 or less and SHGC of 0.23 or less; for 75 square feet or less, 0.40 and 0.35.
Is there a tax credit for new windows in 2026?
No. The federal 25C credit does not apply to windows placed in service after December 31, 2025. We know of no current PG&E window rebate.
Retrofit or full-frame windows?
A retrofit window fits in the old frame and leaves the stucco alone. Full-frame removes the whole window, so damage can be fixed, but the stucco has to be patched.
Can you fix a foggy window without replacing it?
Often, yes. If the frame is sound, the sealed glass unit can be replaced and the frame stays.
Do I need a permit to replace windows?
Often, yes, and the new windows must meet the energy code. We check what your address needs before work starts.
Vinyl or fiberglass?
Vinyl costs less and needs little upkeep. Fiberglass costs more and is stiffer and more stable in heat. We show you both for your budget.
How long does it take to replace windows?
Windows are made to order, which takes some weeks. Installing most homes takes a day or two.
Can you fix foggy glass without replacing the window?
Often, yes. A fogged dual-pane unit can usually be replaced in the existing frame if the frame is sound.
